Preparing for Wildfire Smoke Season

Wildfire smoke can affect air quality across British Columbia during the summer months. Taking steps to prepare for smoky conditions can help reduce exposure and protect your health.

Ways to prepare include:
  • Keep indoor air cleaner by considering a portable HEPA air cleaner or a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) air cleaner.
  • Know where to find cleaner air in your community, such as libraries, community centres, or shopping malls.
  • Make a plan for people who may be more sensitive to smoke, including people with chronic conditions, pregnant people, infants, young children, and older adults.
  • Reduce strenuous outdoor activity during smoky conditions and consider a well-fitted respirator to reduce exposure.
  • Monitor local air quality, wildfire conditions, and smoke forecasts to help plan activities and reduce exposure.
