Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society (CVIMS) is a registered charity that provides services to immigrants, including English language classes, employment support, direct settlement assistance, and other related services. Programs and services offered include:
Settlement Services: Meet with a settlement worker and get all the information needed to help you and your family settle in your new home in Central Vancouver Island. Settlement services include: information centre for newcomers, personalized support with a settlement worker or case manager, assistance with completing applications for government services, referrals to community resources and service providers, and support with accessing cross cultural counselling, citizenship classes, information and orientation workshops on settling in Canada.
Employment Services: Receive support with resume building, job search, interview preparation, and certification requirements to help you reconnect with your professional background in Canada. The Employment Centre is available to all unemployed individuals eligible to work in Canada. Available Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm.
Family Services: As part of Family Services, childminding is available while participants attend English classes at CVIMS. School support is provided through the Settlement Workers in Schools program (Kindergarten to Grade 12), along with youth programming for pre-teens and teens through the Youth Connections program.
Language: CVIMS offers free government approved English classes for the eligible newcomers through the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program. They also provide free English classes for Temporary Foreign Workers, Naturalized Canadian Citizens, Refugee Claimants, and Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) visa holders.
